The collection consists of Fletcher family correspondence, diaries, legal documents, printed material, and business, personal, and political records. Calvin Fletcher's diaries (1817-1866) concern current events, business activities, family, social, and political life, and his travels. The diary of Sarah Hill Fletcher dates from 1821 to 1838. Correspondence consists mainly of letters exchanged between Fletcher and family members. The letters concern politics, economics, slavery, travel accounts, and the Civil War. Included are letters from Stephen Keyes Fletcher who served in the 33rd and 115th Indiana Regiments.

Calvin Fletcher (1897-1866) was a state senator, lawyer, businessman, and farmer. He was elected prosecuting attorney for the Marion County Circuit Court in 1821, and served as state senator from 1825-1833. Fletcher was appointed director of the State Bank in 1834 and later organized the Indianapolis Branch Banking Co., also known as the Fletcher and Sharpe Bank.
